Summer 2017 Internship Application

The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP) offers internships to a select group of applicants. These are full-time, unpaid internships for college credit, located in either our Hamilton, West Trenton, or Newark office. The summer internship program runs from June 5, 2017 through July 28, 2017.

The application package must be submitted by March 3, 2017.


  • Students must:
    • currently be enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university;
    • have completed a minimum of 48 college credits or two years;
    • include a writing sample (not to exceed 500 words), resume, unofficial transcript and cover letter discussing why you wish to intern for NJOHSP with your completed application; a letter of recommendation is optional;
    • undergo a Level 1 background investigation check;
    • have U.S. citizenship or permanent residence status;
    • be available to work Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, during the above-referenced time period;
    • be available for Orientation on June 5, 2017 from 9:00am - 5:00 pm.

This program gives students the opportunity to receive training and career development while earning college credits and gaining valuable work experience.

February 13: Chief, Cybersecurity Technical Operations Bureau (Manager 1, Information Processing) (Closes Feb. 24)

NJOHSP iis seeking an experienced individual with a background in design, engineering, implementation, management, and operations of enterprise information security technologies to lead its Cybersecurity Technical Operations Bureau within the Division of Cybersecurity. The successful candidate would have responsibility for the engineering and management of the Division of Cybersecurity's technical security portfolio and would be responsible for working cooperatively with departments and agencies across the Executive Branch of NJ State Government to ensure security technologies are implemented in a manner that manages risk effectively and efficiently. 

February 13: Personnel Trainee or Personnel Assistant 4 (Closes Feb. 24)

Under the direction of the Bureau Chief of Human Resources, the Personnel Assistant Trainee or Personnel Assistant 4 will assist in the administration of various personnel activities. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, assisting with recruitment activities, talent management, orientation and exit interviews, preparation of various forms, reports, correspondence, conducting research, responding to various inquiries, maintaining HR's electronic and paper filing system, maintaining and/or updating records, forms, handbooks, etc., assisting and/or delivering HR related training, providing management support and performing related administrative duties.
