Individual Preparedness

During this week you will know how to:

  • Understand actions you can take to be prepared for emergency
  • Be aware of specific needs you may have if an emergency strikes like: medication, power needs, eye classes, devices that you may count on, pet needs, etc.
  • Understand safety tips and protective actions you can take before or during a disaster.
  • Download the FEMA app for disaster resources, weather alerts, and safety tips

Maturing Public Private Partnerships: Frederick Community College (AWR-342)

The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, New Jersey State Police, and FEMA Region II is sponsoring a three-day training program titled: " Maturing Public Private Partnerships" (AWR-342). The program will be instructed by Frederick Community College (FCC), a member of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium (NDPC).

Active Shooter Workshop: DHS

The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP), United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, will be hosting this one-day security workshop to enhance awareness of an active shooter event.

Text-to-9-1-1 Event

  • Rutgers University Visitor Center

The FCC pushed states and wireless carriers to come up with plans for installing Text-to-9-1-1 capability. In response, the top wireless companies developed a software system that allows dispatchers to receive and process 9-1-1 texts. The system works on any P.C. that is hooked to the Internet. Dispatchers learned to use the new system in 15 minutes.

Community Cybersecurity Exercise Planning: TEEX (MGT-385)

  • Mercer County, NJ

The New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell (NJCCIC) is sponsoring a two-day training program titled: " Community Cybersecurity Exercise Planning " (MGT-385). The program will be instructed by Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), a member of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium (NDPC).

During this week you will know how to:

  • Contact family and friends before, during, and after an emergency.
  • Make a family emergency communication plan
  • Consider that your entire family may not be together during a disaster- make a plan of how you will reunite after an emergency.
  • Prepare for the unique needs of your family members, friends and neighbors.

September is recognized as National Preparedness Month (NPM) which serves as a reminder that we all must take action to prepare, now and throughout the year, for the types of emergencies that could affect us where we live, work, and also where we visit.
