RIA - Social Media Analysis

  • Fairleigh Dickinson University Metropolitan Campus 140 University Plaza Dr Hackensack, NJ, 07601

DESCRIPTION

The NJ Regional Intelligence Academy (RIA) will be hosting (2) FREE deliveries of the 1-day workshop titled: “Social Media Analysis: Current Trends for Homeland Security and Law Enforcement.”

The growth of intelligence-led approaches to law enforcement and homeland security has empowered state and local law enforcement with a new level of situational awareness. Local jurisdictions now receive a significant amount of information from international, national and state jurisdictions.

The breadth and depth of these analytical products provides helpful information for jurisdictions to improve their policing approach.

However, public safety professionals must ensure they can proactively examine the scope of criminal and terrorist groups that may be operating in their jurisdictions.

As a means to develop intelligence inputs to analyze the scope of threats that may be operating in an agency’s jurisdiction, the use of social media must be examined and compared to existing and potential vulnerabilities to obtain the clearest perspective of a jurisdiction’s risk environment.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • This training program seeks to examine current trends in social media and how homeland security and law enforcement personnel might analyze and interpret various social media information.

  • Identify various social media outlets / types that yield investigative/intelligence inputs.

  • Identify trends in social media usage by threat groups or radicalized persons.
